Story.
01
The Applied Arts Foundation
I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Arts from Apeejay College of Fine Arts in Jalandhar, Punjab — a discipline built on the intersection of artistic vision and purposeful design. While Fine Arts trains the eye, Applied Arts trains the hand to solve — to make composition, typography, and visual hierarchy work in the real world. That foundation has never left my work.
02
Canada & the next chapter
Moving to Toronto meant building from scratch in a new market. I enrolled in Seneca College's Graphic Design Advanced Program — not to restart, but to sharpen. What followed was a career that moved from design consultant to design supervisor at Staples Canada, then to creative director of a cause-driven fashion magazine, and most recently to freelance design leadership at BixBlog Co.
03
The UX evolution
In 2026, I completed the Google UX Design Professional Certificate — not as a pivot, but as an extension. Thirteen years of graphic and brand design gave me something rare in UX: a genuine visual sensibility. I know how to make an interface beautiful and how to make it work. The certificate gave me the language. The career gave me the craft.
"Design is most powerful when it makes the invisible visible — when it gives a voice to the people who are never usually centred. Seerat was the clearest example of that I've ever worked on."
What drives the work
I believe the best design has a point of view. It doesn't just communicate — it takes a position. Whether I'm designing a brand system, a magazine spread, or a mobile app, I ask the same question first: what should this make someone feel? The answer shapes everything that follows.
How I work with clients
I work best in direct, honest collaboration. I ask a lot of questions at the start because I believe the brief is usually the most important design decision. I present rationale alongside concepts because a good design should be able to explain itself — even to someone who isn't a designer.
Outside the studio
Photography has been a parallel practice for years — it sharpens my eye for composition and light in ways that digital tools alone can't. I also follow fashion closely, which is less about aesthetics than about understanding how culture expresses itself through form. Both feed directly into the design work.
